Pass the Fear Transmutations: Every Element and When It Pays Off

The verified outcomes for Hemorrhage, Freeze, Disruption, Corrosion, and Ignition, plus a practical framework for buildup speed, direct triggers, and co-op roles.

Transmutation is a buildup-and-payoff loop

A weapon hit adds buildup for that weapon's element. When the target's buildup fills, the corresponding Transmutation triggers. This distinction matters: a bonus to the payoff is not the same as reaching the proc sooner, and a direct-trigger effect can bypass part of the normal buildup cycle.

Evaluate the loop in two halves. First ask how reliably your weapon creates buildup through hit rate, projectile pattern, cadence, and target access. Then ask what the triggered effect contributes to the situation you are trying to solve.

Open a weapon in the Weapons database to compare its element, variant stats, buildup values, and firing pattern.

The five verified Transmutation outcomes

  • Hemorrhage: Physical weapon hits build Hemorrhage; the proc deals 300% Physical Damage.
  • Freeze: Frost weapon hits build Freeze; the proc deals 150% Frost Damage and freezes enemies for 2 seconds.
  • Disruption: Lightning weapon hits build Disruption; for 5 seconds, damage additionally deals Lightning Damage equal to 10%–40% of the damage dealt.
  • Corrosion: Acid weapon hits build Corrosion; the proc deals 100% Acid Damage and reduces the enemy's All Resistances by 30% for 5 seconds.
  • Ignition: Fire weapon hits build Ignition; the proc deals 150% area Fire Damage.

Choose an element by encounter role

Direct damage and room coverage

Hemorrhage has the largest single printed damage percentage of the five. Ignition's area damage can matter more when several targets can be caught in the payoff. Neither statement proves a universal winner: buildup access, enemy spacing, and the rest of the build determine how much of the printed effect becomes useful damage.

Control and follow-up windows

Freeze adds a two-second control effect. Corrosion lowers all resistances for five seconds, creating a window for the user and squad. Disruption also pays during a five-second duration, so continued damage after the proc is part of its value.

Separate proc frequency from proc damage

More fire rate or repeated hits may create more buildup opportunities, but only if the attacks connect and the weapon's actual buildup supports the plan. A slower weapon can still be effective when each hit contributes more or when its effect directly triggers a Transmutation. Do not convert rate of fire into proc rate without checking the weapon record.

Likewise, a relic that says Transmutation Damage changes payoff, not necessarily frequency. A condition such as Final Shot changes how you operate the magazine. Write those effects on separate lines when planning so one strong number does not hide a weak trigger.

Build a squad window instead of four isolated builds

In co-op, agree on what happens immediately after a control or resistance proc. A Corrosion window is wasted if the group is reloading or changing targets. Freeze is more valuable when it creates time for a revive, reposition, or concentrated burst. The useful question is not only who triggered the status, but whether the team converted its duration into progress.

A two-weapon loadout can also assign roles: one weapon creates a reliable setup while the other capitalizes on the opening or handles enemies the primary loop struggles to reach.

Model both weapon slots and their conditional effects in the Build Planner instead of treating every tooltip as always active.

Hemorrhage is listed at 300% Physical Damage, the largest single printed percentage among the five. That does not automatically make it the best in every build or encounter.

Does Corrosion reduce every resistance?

Does more fire rate always mean more Transmutations?

Not automatically. Fire rate can create more hit opportunities, but actual proc frequency also depends on connecting those hits, the weapon's buildup values, projectile behavior, and any direct-trigger effects.
